What to expect
❓Sound Bath FAQs
New to sound baths? You're in the right place. Below are some common questions people ask before attending their first session. I hope this helps you feel more at ease and excited to experience the deeply healing world of vibrational sound.
🌙 What is a sound bath?
A sound bath is an immersive, meditative experience where you're "bathed" in sound waves created by instruments such as quartz crystal singing bowls, a 32" wind gong, Koshi chimes, and occasionally traditional Himalayan singing bowls. These soothing vibrations help calm the nervous system, release tension, and guide you into a deeply relaxed, restorative state.
It’s important to note that no two sound bath sessions are ever the same — even if I tried! Each experience is shaped by the energy of the room, how you 'feel' at the time, and how I intuitively play the instruments. This means every session offers something unique, and each person's experience will vary from one session to the next.
🛏️ Do I have to do anything during the session?
Nope—just book your ticket, turn up at least 10 minutes before the event. You'll rest comfortably on a mat with cushions and blankets (please bring your own, or check my booking page for what's provided), close your eyes, and allow the frequencies and vibrations of the singing bowls, gong and chimes to wash over you. That is the beauty of a sound bath - the sound itself does the work for you. All you need to do is welcome the sounds in without expectation, without trying to control a desired outcome. Instead relax, focus on your breath, slow yourself right down, and let the vibrations shift and help release any trapped energy in the body.
😴 What if I fall asleep?
That’s totally normal—and welcomed! Falling asleep during a sound bath simply means your body has slipped into a deeply relaxed, healing state. Even if you drift off, your body still receives the full benefits of the session.
🌀 How will I feel afterward?
Many people feel lighter, calmer, and more grounded. You might feel energised, deeply relaxed, or emotionally moved. Occasionally, you may release old energy or emotions, which is a natural part of the healing process.
🔊 What makes quartz crystal bowls special?
I specialise in quartz crystal frequencies because of their powerful resonance and purity of tone. The sound they emit feels like continuous white noise and works deeply through the body. These bowls help clear, align, and restore energy centres (chakras) through sustained vibrational waves.
🌬️ Are there other instruments used?
Yes, alongside crystal bowls, I may use a 32" wind gong, Koshi chimes, bells and occasionally traditional Himalayan singing bowls. Each instrument brings a unique frequency and energy that supports healing in a different way. In some future sound baths, I may introduce subtle electronic elements—such as digital music software—to complement the live instruments. These additions will allow for textured overtones, looping, accent sounds, and an unlimited supply of healing frequencies, enhancing the overall soundscape. However, in my sound baths, the primary focus is always on the live instruments, which I play intuitively to create a deeply therapeutic and immersive experience.
💫 What should I bring?
-
Yoga mat or something comfy to lie on
-
Blanket and pillow (comfort is key!)
-
Water bottle
-
An open mind and willingness to relax
Some venues may provide mats—check the event details or ask me if you're unsure. I will always bring handmade lavender eye-masks for all.
🧒 Can children come?
For adult group sound baths, I recommend ages 16+ due to the stillness and sensitivity of the space. I also offer family or parent-and-baby sessions, which are designed with younger ones in mind.
🧘♀️ Do I need to be spiritual or have experience?
Not at all. Sound baths are accessible to everyone, no matter your beliefs or background. Whether you’re drawn to it for stress relief, energy work, meditation, spirituality or curiosity—it’s your journey.
❤️ How often should I attend?
Even one session can bring noticeable benefits. Regular sound baths can support ongoing emotional balance, deeper sleep, energy alignment, and personal growth. Trust your intuition and how your body responds. I usually recommend fortnightly attendance.
✨ What’s the difference between a group sound bath and a 1:1 session?
Group sessions offer a shared energy and collective experience, while private 1:1s allow for a more personalised journey using a wider range of tools, including tuning fork therapy and tailored chakra alignment.

A word from a regular sound bather at Your Sound Guide -
"I always try to arrive a little early to settle in before the session begins. From the moment I step into the space, I’m greeted with warmth and calm. The room is usually softly lit, sometimes with electric candles flickering around the crystal bowls, and the gentle scent of incense or sage creates an instantly soothing atmosphere.
I set up my mat, blanket, and pillow—sometimes grabbing an extra blanket or one of the lovely lavender eye masks Oceana provides—and sign into the guest book. Once everyone is settled, the lights go down and the space transforms; soft, swirling projections of galaxies or flowing patterns often dance across the ceiling or walls, which I sometimes focus on if I choose to keep my eyes open during the session.
Oceana gently guides us into the experience with some grounding breathwork and a short meditation—often themed around something like gratitude or grounding. She’ll remind us to return to the breath if emotions surface or if the mind gets busy, which I always find comforting.
Then the sound journey begins. The range of tones from the singing bowls is so rich and layered; it feels like being wrapped in waves of sound. Each session is different, but the experience is always deeply immersive. For about 45 minutes, I completely let go.
When the bowls fall silent, Oceana gently brings us back—with our breath, our senses, and awareness of our bodies. Afterwards, she offers a calming herbal tea, often with plants like chamomile, lemon verbena, or valerian root, which helps ease the transition back into the day or evening. Sometimes people share their experiences, and Oceana always takes time to check in with everyone before they leave.
I often leave feeling a little floaty, peaceful, and deeply rested. No two sessions have ever felt the same. Once I’m home, I try to follow her advice—avoiding screens, caffeine, and heavy food—to let the effects of the session settle. Without fail, I always sleep beautifully that night."
